Stories of Hope: Episode 11 - Sthabile Mnyandu
Sthabile Mnyandu’s story: She suffered burn accident when she was younger but she continued reaching stars. She won countless table tennis tournament and striving to participate in 2024 Paralympics. She was given the opportunity to complete a Business Administration learnership with Edge Training which was sponsored by GeoAfrika Technologies, she then took part in Step In programme, she was later absorbed into HSG Attorneys where she works in Administration department. “(00:12) My name is Sthabile Mnyandu, I was born in a town called eNdedwe but I grew up in a boarding school, that’s where my love for table tennis grew.
(00:28) I was doing grade four when it all started. And from then, I started representing the province in countless tournaments, national games. And from there, I’ve been winning and I was selected to represent the country in Taiwan, which was in 2017 and then in Slovenia. So I’ve been having the pleasure to represent the country. I enjoy playing table tennis because I have so much love for it, I have been playing it for so long, so I really enjoy it.
(01:18) My varsity life, I was able to join Edge Training for my Learnership in Business Administration. I think I was lucky enough because they were able to get me a job at GeoAfrika, HSG Attorneys. My duty is administration, we do land agreements and send out letters to land owners if there is a donation that needs to be made. So we make sure that we send letters to the correct owners and agreements.
(02:02) Edge Training has a division called Step-In which prepares the learners for the workplace environment, I was very fortunate to get a call from them asking me to come attend their workshop, which includes CV building, work readiness, and what to expect in the working environment. So, they really helped me a lot because I think how CV looks, it counts in getting you a job, obviously you have to know what to expect in the working environment. So, I think I was ready and all thanks to Step-In.
(02:56) My hopes and goals is to grow up in the company, level up, and be able to afford myself buy myself a car, build a family, I think everyone wants that. In terms of my sports, it’s to see myself in Commonwealth and then the Paralympics, I know I’ve missed the Paralympics in 2020, but my goal is to see myself in 2024 Paralympics.
