“(00:15) (Lindokuhle Mvelase, Mlungisi Nomaqiza and Nkanyezi Dube Represents more than 20 students currently completing learnerships at Ninian &Lester. The following three are doing their practical in Business Administration and Hygiene & Cleaning with Jockey. This is their experience…)

Lindokuhle Mvelase:

(00:29) My name is Lindokuhle Mvelase, I grew up in a place called Nquthu back in KZN, and I live with my father and my mother, my father was a breadwinner. Unfortunately, God decided to take him from us in 2015, then I had to move from Nquthu to come back in Durban to try and provide for my family since my father died while he was a breadwinner. So I’ve met some other guys in Durban, from uMlazi, he told me about the learnership from Edge Training. He said no, why don’t you go there and try your luck, then I go there and apply, then I got a job. They employ me here at Jockey which is where I’m doing my practical.

(01:31) For me, being here at Jockey it really changed my entire life. I am now able to provide for my family.ᅠ I was able to learn some new things because obviously there are so many people you can get here at Jockey, so I met different people, I also learned some new things. So in future, as I’m currently doing a learnership right now, I was hoping maybe in future I can also work here Jockey. I can see that Jockey is a very good company, they treat their employees very well even though challenges are everywhere so, you cannot run away from challenges.

Mlungisi Nomaqiza:

(02:32) My name is Mlungisi Lucky Nomaqiza, I come from uMlazi, I come from a family of three, I’m the middle child. Growing up, it wasn’t easy because we lost my father at a young age. So, we had to bounce from place to place until we settled in uMlazi. In uMlazi that’s how I met my friend Kanye Zitube, He introduced me to Edge Training. Edge Training took me in and then they placed me, at Jockey pty clothing, that’s where I’m currently doing my practical as a hygiene and cleaner, that’s where I’ve been for the past year.

(03:06) The people at Jockey have been friendly from my supervisor to the people I’ve worked with. Jockey has changed my life for the better, they took me in during a financially difficult year, and I’ve been a positive role model in my family since I’m the breadwinner, I’m able to put food on the table, and I was also able to take my brother to school. Thanks to the stipend I received.

(03:31) My future goals are if ever this learnership ends, that I get a permanent job or if I’m lucky, I will now able to start my own company.

Nkanyezi Dube:

(03:45) My name is Nkanyezi Dube, I live in uMlazi, my family members consist of myself and four others that’s excluding my father since my mother and father are separated. My biggest obstacles are when my father had to leave us and I had to fill his role as the head of the family, and as a breadwinner.

(04:17) I heard about Jockey from Edge Training, they are the ones that introduced us at Jockey. We are very happy with everything that Jockey has done for us since they gave us an opportunity to learn more. They gave us an opportunity to work as well so, financially they backed us up for our living expenses.

(04:51) When we first came introduced to the Jockey family, they were very welcoming, and were very helpful, if there is anything we don’t know how to do. They taught us during the job, so everything that we did here reflected on their character as well, so they were very helpful people, so they’ve made us feel welcome. It’s like a second home to me.

(0516) Moving forward from now is to be a part of the Jockey family, has to be a permanent member here so, in order to do that, I need to work even harder than I am now so, yeah, thanks.

(05:32) My name is Lydicia Mahasela, I’m supervisor of learnership here at Ninian and Lester. I work with learnership for three years. These three learners that they are participating in here, they are respectful, and they work as a team and we are glad to have them here at Ninian and Lester.

(06:00) Hi I am (Nkanyezi Dube, Lindokuhle Mvelase, Mlungisi Nomaqiza)

Nkanyezi Dube:

(06:04) On behalf of the team, I would like to thank Ninian and Lester, Edge Training, and Jockey for giving us this opportunity and also for giving us hope.”
