“(00:16) My name is Scelo Luthuli, I come from Richmond, eNhlazuka and I am 27 years old. I grew up in a boarding school for the visually impaired in Maritzburg. I went there at a very young age, and one of the side effects of that was that I still have a difficult time connecting emotionally with my family or whoever I have a relationship with in general. Even though the love is there for my family and friends, I still cannot connect with them on an intimate and personal level.
(01:10) I went to UKZN for my degree and once I got that, I furthered my studies and got my honors degree. When I finished my honors, I started looking for opportunities, which is when I came in touch with Edge through a friend who recommended it to me. I then applied and was accepted.
(01:39) Edge Training, introduced me to the world of work where they taught me the fundamentals about being professional and that was a very eye opening experience. They gave me a learnership that put me in touch with VNA, working there has been amazing. The people are great, the building is beautiful and I could go on about how great this company is, and I will never underestimate the importance of this opportunity.
(02:39) At VNA I assist with administration, I help with the compiling of documents, be it road safety, road maintenance or even road inspection. So far it has been such a positive experience and I am extremely grateful to VNA for the opportunity that they have given me.
(03:18) The career prospects that I’m really looking forward to is, teaching English in Asia. I would really like to fulfil that connection void that I have and even potentially be able to play a role in the lives of children. Connecting with them in a way that I haven’t been able to with others and to teach them values and emotional intelligence that they will need to build a life they love. If I could achieve that I would be very happy and proud of myself.”
